NFL Hosting Forums

The National Football League and Morehouse School of Medicine is hosting forums in 30 cities to inform and discuss head trauma and its lasting effects.  The first one was held in Buffalo.

Sylvia Mackey still remembers the sense of relief she felt the day in 2001 when her husband, NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey, was diagnosed with early onset dementia.

The former Baltimore Colts tight end was only 59 at the time, and the news changed the course of their lives. But, finally, she had an answer for the years of frustration and anger that followed his mysterious memory loss and erratic behavior.

“I had to know how to move forward,” Mackey recalled Monday at the NFL Community Huddle at the University at Buffalo North Campus, one of 30 forums on sports-related head injuries and other mental health issues being held nationwide by the National Football League and the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta.
