NHL All-Concussion Team

Wayne Scanlan of The Vancouver Sun wrote about the concussion incidence in professional hockey.  He used information that we have been compiling on those concussed in the NHL;

To look at the list of names is to gasp at the scope of the problem: Seventy-two players, with one month still to play.

Considering most teams have a 23-man active roster, some 690 players are in the NHL — that means more than 10 per cent of the league’s players have had a concussion this season.

As Scanlan started to list off the players for the “All-Concussion Team” he admits that the talent on said team could be good enough to challenge for the Stanley Cup.  Here is what Scanlan came up with;

Centre: Sidney Crosby, Brad Richards, Marc Savard, David Krejci, John Tavares, Bryan Little.

Left wing: Johan Franzen, Andy McDonald, David Perron, Max Pacioretty, Rene Bourque.

Right wing: Marian Gaborik, Ales Hemsky, Jason Pominville, Mike Knuble.

Defence: Drew Doughty, Mike Green, Brad Stuart, Toni Lydman, Dan Hamhuis, Andrej Meszaros, Nick Schultz

Goal: Jonas Hiller, Ondrej Pavelec

It’s a pretty complete roster, although a real general manager might tinker with it to add some grit (there’s plenty available, with the likes of Colby Armstrong, Steve Montador, Cam Janssen etc.).

A very impressive list indeed, perhaps the General Managers will have some good ideas as they meet in Florida this week.
